Insurance for applying to Resident Permit

When you’re applying to Finland, you need to have insurance that covers your medical and drug expenses. For people who do not have Kela card, European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), they must buy insurance from private companies and the insurance must be valid when you set foot in Finland.

Things to remember while buying insurance

The insurance plan you buy must cover the medical expenses up to EUR 40000 if you plan to stay in Finland for more than two years.

If you plan to stay in Finland for less than two years, then you need to buy insurance that covers at least EUR 120000 of your medical expenses.

Another thing to take care of is that the insurance excess must not exceed EUR 300. In order to understand this more clearly, for instance, if you get sick and get admitted to hospital, the hospital bill is 1000 euro, the insurance policy would make you pay the initial 300 euro and the rest will be paid by the insurance. That initial payment policy must not exceed 300 euro.

Where can you buy the insurance?

You can buy insurance either from companies in your home country or from international companies. Migri.fi has mentioned few international companies from where you can buy insurance:

the French company Assurances Courtages et Services (ACS) (www.acs-ami.com)

Aon Student Insurance, whose parent company is the US company Aon Corporation (https://www.aonstudentinsurance.com)

the US company International Student Insurance (www.internationalstudentinsurance.com)

the Swiss insurance company Swisscare – ESI Finland plan (https://swisscare.com/)

SIP Integral (https://www.sipinsurance.eu)

You can also buy insurance from your home nation as well, just make sure your planned policy meets the requirement mentioned in migri.fi.
